On May 4, 2017, Governor Deal signed HB249, which expands access to naloxone, a life-saving drug for overdose prevention that is critical to stem the tide of opioid epidemic. HB 249 permits the State Health Officer to issue a standing order prescribing an opioid antagonist under conditions that she determines to be in the best interest of the state. It also requires every pharmacy in the State of Georgia to retain a copy of such standing order.
